to the public today and likely will be for a couple of days due to safety reasons. president obama is visiting the damage for himself today. >> check meanwhile, thousands in and near ocean city were forced to evacuate before the storm made landfall. residents say that there was plenty of wind damage to pickup, debris, down signs, and the buildings will need to be repaired. the worst damage was done by the water. the swollen day flooded city streets and stores and ocean waves as high as 13 feet washed away most of the beaches and dunes and a large portion of the fishing pier. all in all, residents consider themselves lucky. closer to baltimore, we spotted people in the low-lying city areas to have to wade through floodwaters, people in wilson's. and other areas are used to flooding waters, but they say this was not nearly as bad as 2003's isabel. >> compared to isabelle, a piece of cake. my whole baseman had been flooded to the ceiling. >> this is mild, compared the late. -- comparatively. this is an ice storm, but compared to dispel -- is about, this is nothing. >> governor martin

days until election day, president obama heading back on the campaign trail after a three day hold on campaigning to keep an eye on hurricane sandy. he's making up for lost time hitting three swing states today and spending all day tomorrow in ohio. first stop this morning, wisconsin. the latest poll shows the president has a three point lead. that is within the margin of error. down from a six point edge a couple weeks ago. in new hampshire, mitt romney also in a statistical tie. a month ago before the debate, the president held a seven point lead in new hampshire. in iowa, the president leads mitt romney by six points, a drop slightly from his eight point lead earlier in october. the president surveying storm damage yesterday. mitt romney softened his attacks mentioning the president's name not a single time during three florida rallies. instead, mr. romney expressed the need for unity. >> we come together at times like this and we want to make sure they have a speedy and quick recovery from their financial and in many cases personal loss. now people coming together is what's als

of the day doing storm response with president obama. as you can see, this is a shoreline district fronting the new york harbor. i know this has been a difficult past couple days, what kind of damage are you seeing in your district? >> it's all kinds of damage. i mentioned union beach to you. three or four blocks from the bay, the storm surge came in and the waves were pounding on top of the houses. somehow it just washed away completely. i had never seen anything like that before. there are other place where's almost the entire town was under water, almost up to the second floor of the homes and they don't see to be habitable any more. you have towns that were wiped out. i came, i apologize from being dressed this way, i saw the natural gas explosion, we had a gas explosion that wiped out five homes adjacent to each other. and i was talking to the people there. as the storm surge came in, i guess it knocked off the boiler on the tank, and a house went up in flames and four other houses. >> we think back about katrina and what a big impact that was on our country, we rarely think a

about obama's record for debt and deficits, health care, energy, any day we're talking about something else, that's good for obama, and so i will be surprised if he doesn't make a little bit of a comeback here. he's had a prett pretty solid mt for a month. there wasn't anything happen to stop the movement by romney. what may stop it is this storm and not so much that the president will do a great job, although i don't have any doubt that he will. mostly what happens right after a terrible storm is we know where i come from, it's the local first responders. it's the firemen, the policeman, the highway patrolmen, the national guardsmen, the mayors, the governors, but the federal government has a role to play, a bigger role down the road, but the biggest thing is changing the subject is great for obama. he's been trying to change the subject all year. >> greta: let's talk about timing. if he changes the subject, for instance, monday night, if everyone is done early voting, doesn't matter if he changes the subject. we're a week out and the subject is being changed a week out. the
